Romania Is Surging The Tourism Industry With New Visa-Free Travel Policy For 88 Countries Including Schengen Countries, UAE, UK and US

Romania, a member of the European Union, allows visa-free entry to citizens of 88 countries, making it an accessible destination for many international travelers. This policy enhances Romania’s appeal as a travel destination, encouraging tourism and fostering international relations. Visitors from these visa-exempt countries can explore Romania’s rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and scenic landscapes without the hassle of obtaining a visa. This ease of access underscores Romania’s commitment to welcoming global visitors and promoting its diverse attractions, from the bustling capital of Bucharest to the picturesque regions of Transylvania and beyond.

Romania is a nation situated at the juncture of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe.It shares borders with Ukraine to the north and east, Hungary to the west, Serbia to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, Moldova to the east, and the Black Sea to the southeast it has a predominantly continental climate. As of 2023, Romania has a population of 19 million, making it the twelfth-largest country in Europe and the sixth-most populous member state of the European Union. Bucharest serves as the capital and the largest city. Tourist  arrivals in Romania have been steadily increasing, reflecting the country’s growing popularity as a travel destination.

By 2019, over 13 million tourist arrivals were recorded at accommodation establishments. It is worth mentioning that figures have been steadily rising for both domestic and international arrivals. However, because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in 2020, the number of tourist arrivals dropped by more than 50 percent compared to the previous year, totaling only 6.34 million people. In the first quarter of 2024, the country achieved a number of tourists – 2.47 million.

The tourism sector, as such, has become one of the most important contributors to a country’s growth and economic development. In 2024, Romania’s tourism sector accounted for 4.95 percent of the country’s GDP.

The country’s GDP growth rate was around 2.6% in 2023, with expectations for moderate improvement to 3.2% in 2024. This growth is driven by various factors, including increased household consumption, business investments, and exports​.

Airport in Romania:

Henri Coandă International Airport, serving as an international gateway for Bucharest, is Romania’s busiest airport and the primary hub for the national carrier, TAROM. Situated 11 miles (18 km) north of Bucharest in Otopeni, it stands as Romania’s most significant airport, with annual passenger numbers exceeding 14 million.

TAROM, Romania’s national flag carrier, operates out of Otopeni, near Bucharest, with its headquarters and main hub situated at Henri Coandă International Airport. The airline boasts a fleet of 18 aircraft and currently serves 70 destinations, either directly or through its code-share partners. By the end of 2025, TAROM plans to expand its fleet with the arrival of Boeing 737 MAX 8s, each configured to accommodate 189 passengers.
