The Lagos State Police Command has announced one Miss Feyisayo Ogedengbe, an auxiliary nurse, as the prime suspect in the death of popular Afrobeats singer, Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The police also listed Mohbad’s friend and manager, Ayobami Sadiq, and his childhood friend, Ibrahim Oluwatosin Owodunni (Primeboy), as suspects, while declaring Mohbad’s former record label owner, Abdul-Aziz Fashola (Naira Marley), and a controversial music promoter, Samson Balogun Eletu (Sam Larry) as complicit in the death and may be charged for cyber bullying.
The five have been interrogated and detained among the 26 people identified by the Police in connection to the case.
Mohbad, 27, died on September 12 in controversial circumstances after injections were administered on him by the auxiliary nurse who is said to be unqualified to carry out the treatment.
His death has become a major controversy with several processions held in his honours.
Several old videos of the singer being allegedly bullied and physical assaulted have since surfaced on social media, necessitating calls for his tormentors to be brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, who addressed a press briefing in Lagos on Friday, said Ogedengbe administered “multiple and highly potent” injections on Mohbad on September 12 without requisite qualification to do so.
Owohunwa disclosed that the injections, consisting of Tetanus Toxoid, Paracetamol, and Cetrazone — an antibiotic — were administered on the singer at his Lekki residence after she was invited by Mobad’s manager.
According to the CP, the injections allegedly triggered an immediate reaction, including vomiting, goosebumps and convulsion.
According to him, Ogedengbe was unqualified to perform the role of a home nurse and did so in a non-clinical environment and professionally negligent manner.
The police commissioner also disclosed that Sadiq was in custody and deemed a suspect because he was the one who invited the auxiliary nurse over to Mohbad’s residence.
He added that Primeboy also became a suspect and is being kept alongside the four others, because he attended a show with Mohbad on September 10, which culminated in a physical fight between the two that led to the late singer sustaining serious injuries. It was the injuries sustained from the fight, alongside general feeling of being unwell, that led to the auxiliary nurse being invited by Sadiq to administer treatment on Mohbad.
“The management of the injury subsequently resulted in his death,” Owohunwa said.
He also clarified that Sam Larry who was arrested and has remained in detention for being complicit in the Afrobeats star’s death may be charged in relation to the viral videos of the deceased being bullied and assaulted.
Ditto for Naira Marley, who also is still in detention over similar allegations.
The police commissioner added that the result of the autopsy and toxicology tests undertaken on September 21 are still being awaited.
