Pharrell Williams plans for the 2025 Met Gala to be dedicated to the culture.
Ahead of the event, which will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on May 5, the rapper-producer and fashion designer spoke on the podcast “The Run-Through With Vogue” about his hopes for the Met Gala. Williams, who’s men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton, serves as co-chair of the event along with A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo and Anna Wintour, along with honorary co-chair LeBron James.
“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” this year’s Met Gala theme, draws inspiration from the book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by Monica L. Miller.
“It’s going to be a very impactful, beautiful night where we celebrate the color Black,” Williams said on the April 29 episode of “The Run-Through.” “We celebrate the things that come from that color. We celebrate the mentality. We celebrate the plight. We celebrate the progress and the success. And we celebrate the potential.”
“We see it in all different forms, right?” he continued. “From authors to architects to artists to academics and to athletes, all A words. But, yeah, that’s what that night is all about. It’s like the best of the best, top of the top.”
Sure to be Williams’ Met Gala date is his wife of 12 years, Helen Lasichanh, who has attended the charity event with him in previous years.
