The Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Federal Capital Territory Chapter, has expressed profound grief over the sudden death of award-winning filmmaker, producer, director and writer, Dimbo Atiya, describing his passing as a devastating loss to Nollywood and Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Chairman of AMP FCT Chapter, Desmond Utomwen, said the association received the news of Atiya’s death with shock, disbelief and immense sadness.

“Dimbo Atiya’s death is not only a painful bereavement for his immediate family; it is a monumental loss to Nollywood and Nigeria’s creative industry,” he said.Top Stories
“His passing has created a deep void in the community of filmmakers, storytellers, performers and creative entrepreneurs whose lives and careers were enriched by his remarkable talent, generosity and commitment to excellence.”
The AMP FCT Chairman described Atiya as an exceptional filmmaker and one of the finest creative minds of his generation, noting that he distinguished himself through professionalism, discipline, creativity and dedication to the art and business of filmmaking.
According to Utomwen, Atiya approached every assignment—whether as a producer, director, writer, showrunner or mentor—with clarity of vision, intellectual depth and an unwavering commitment to excellence, noting that the late filmmaker understood the power of film to entertain, educate, preserve culture, shape public perception and promote national understanding.
He added that Atiya consistently demonstrated through his productions that compelling African stories could be told with authenticity, technical excellence and universal appeal.
Atiya was renowned for his work on several acclaimed film and television productions, including Sons of the Caliphate, Halita, Still Falling, The Rishantes, The Plan and Dala Dala.
Utomwen said the productions reflected Atiya’s talent, versatility and creative courage, particularly his ability to present the stories, cultures and experiences of Northern Nigeria to national and international audiences.
“At a time when many aspects of Nigeria’s cultural diversity remained underrepresented on mainstream screens, Dimbo used his craft to broaden the narrative, challenge stereotypes and reveal the humanity, beauty and complexity of communities that deserved to be seen and heard,” he stated.
“He helped establish a stronger bridge between Northern Nigerian storytelling and the wider Nollywood industry. He demonstrated that culturally grounded stories could remain authentic while appealing to audiences across ethnic, religious and geographical boundaries.” Utomwen stated.
