Okeowo, Aiyeola, Babaoja lament TikTok ban in US

Yoruba actors Biodun Okeowo and Jigan Babaoja have reacted to the shutdown of the popular social media app TikTok in the US.

It is not news that TikTok is slated to be banned in the United States. A Supreme Court on Friday upheld a bipartisan law banning TikTok unless it is sold to a US-based or allied buyer. In April, the outgoing president, Joe Biden, signed into law the banning of the app, citing national security concerns tied to TikTok’s Chinese ownership.

Ahead of the ban, TikTok went offline in the United States on Saturday night. The shutdown left over 170 million American users without access to it.

Reactions to it, Jigan Babaoja who has been in the US for weeks now, noted how boredom is about to start for him.

“How a king of TikTok has been dethroned! Now, let the boredom begin.

O ti da! Pitipiti is that you? E double Tap! Drop the boosting gloves on the X3, E gbe like yen de 1m likes.

Invincible Ogo! Tamash Ogo! Radical Ogo! Anonymous Ogo! Smallz Ogo! Dare hola Ogo!
O get me nsin?”.

Biodun Okeowo, on her part, expressed how emotional she was over the news. She stated that though she doesn’t make money off the app, it was the major app that helped her through heartbreak in 2021, and she still does anytime her mood is low. Questioning if anyone feels the same, she made it known that she isn’t exaggerating.

“I can’t believe I’m literally emotional about the TikTok ban in the US.

I don’t make money on TikTok, but this app was the major app that helped me through heartbreak in 2021, and I still do anytime my mood is low.

This is no exaggeration. I’m genuinely close to tears right now. I don’t know if anyone else feels the same, but I’m really going to miss TikTok”.
