Showbiz personality and creative entrepreneur, Obi Asika’s documentary series titled, ‘Journey of the Beat’ premieres on Showmax streaming platform this Thursday June 23, 2022.

Asika, who announced this in a post on his social media handles, said the project was born out of conversations with some of his collaborators over the years.

“Excited to say that my docu series charting the journey of Nigerian music through the ages debuts tomorrow (Thursday 23rd) on @showmaxnaija @showmaxonline we have been privileged to speak to hundreds of people involved in the journey, superstars, musicians, producers, promoters, media platforms, choreographers, journalists, fashion designers.

“One thing we have learned is that our people are blessed with special talent and personality and we communicate it through our music through the ages. This show would have been impossible without the cooperation and support of the industry and the ecosystem and some of the relationships we have built over the decades. It is impossible to name them all but this series is for everyone who ever wanted to know how our music evolved and globalized.

“Pls do watch the series and i just hope it’s the first step in telling our stories because we know there are biopics, original dramas and live specials to be made,” he wrote.

The 10-part series tells the story of how the present generation of Nigerian artistes found their confidence and identity through music and how it enabled the enormous growth of youth culture in Nigeria and on the African continent.
It tells a story of a genre of music that has unlocked a global movement from small independent labels and promoters in Lagos to spread globally and produce billions of streams, hits, and fans.

The series features some of Nigeria’s biggest artistes such as 2Baba, P-Square, Daddy Showkey, Flavour and D’Banj.
