Netflix’s American superhero series, ‘The Watchmen,’ dominated the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations which held at a virtual ceremony on Tuesday with a record 26 entries.
The announcement saw the US-based streaming giant also break the record for most nominations in a single year, scoring 160 in total ahead of record holders HBO, which recorded 137 nominations in 2019.
This year, HBO clinched 107 nominations.
Netflix bagged nominations for its series; ‘Ozark’, ‘The Crown’, ‘Unbelievable’, and ‘Unorthodox’ as well as its comedies ‘Dead to Me’ and ‘The Kominsky Method’, and its competition series, ‘Nailed It’.
The television academy also gave newcomers Disney+ and Apple TV+ their first nods.
Disney+, which launched in November, scored 19 total nominations including one for best drama series, ‘The Mandalorian’ while Apple TV+ garnered 18 nominations.
The 2020 Emmy Awards will air on ABC at 1am WAT on September 21, 2020.
