Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria (AMP) and the Indian Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria have taken another step to deepen cross-cultural cooperation and foster international growth in Nigeria’s creative sector aimed at exploring opportunities in Nigeria’s movie industry- Nollywood and India’s Bollywood.

Indications to this development emerged when the national president of AMP Amb. Dr Queen Blessing Ebigieson, met with the acting High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Ms Vartika Rawat, at the Indian High Commission in Abuja recently a statement signed by Desmond Utomwen Publicity Secretary (AMP–FCT) said.

The meeting focused on strategic collaborations aimed at advancing the creative industry in Nigeria, with particular emphasis on Nollywood—the second-largest film industry in the world by volume. Discussions explored mutual interests in training, film co-production, technology exchange, and cultural storytelling.

Amb. Dr Queen Blessing Ebigieson described the meeting as “a historic opportunity to build lasting partnerships that will elevate the profile and capacity of Nigerian filmmakers.”

“India and Nigeria share a rich cinematic heritage. This collaboration will not only open doors for joint ventures but also create opportunities for knowledge sharing, especially in areas like post-production, distribution, and digital platforms,” she added.

The AMP President was accompanied by Mr Desmond Utomwen, the Association’s publicity secretary in the FCT, and Ambassador Imaobong Abia, former FCT Chairman of the Association.

The acting High Commissioner of India, Ms Vartika Rawat, expressed India’s enthusiasm for deeper engagement with Nigeria’s vibrant creative sector.

She stated that they are excited about the potential of a structured collaboration between Bollywood and Nollywood, adding that both industries can benefit immensely from shared experiences, technical training, and cross-cultural productions. She further stated that India welcomes initiatives that promote cultural exchange and economic growth through the arts.

The meeting marked a significant step towards international cooperation in the film industry and signals a promising future for Nigerian filmmakers seeking global exposure and partnerships.
