Award-winning director and producer, Kunle Afolayan, has added two new plaques to his awards cabinet.
The filmmaker’s latest flick, ‘Citation’, won the Best Movie Category and Best Actress – African Collaboration (for Temi Otedola) at the just concluded 2020 Ghana Movie Awards.
“Yyyeeeessssssss! We won! We ALL won at the 10th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards.
“Without a doubt, one of the beauties of producing a film is being recognized and appreciated for your craft and hard work; and last night (the 30th of December) we were presented with two awards for our Netflix Original Movie; Citation.”
Shot in three African countries, ‘Citation’ addresses the prevalence of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions. It follows the story of a young and intelligent post-graduate student and her quest to get justice after a popular professor tried to rape her.
The film was released on Netflix on November 6. Prior to its release, it had screened privately to viewers in corporate and academic circles.
It is undoubtedly an amazing year for the celebrated filmmaker who announced earlier in the year his production hub which comprises of a film school and other facilities as well as his partnership with American streaming giant, Netflix, where he featured in the “By Africa, for Africa” campaign video, titled ‘Made by Africa, Watched by the world’. Netflix also engaged him as its representative to reward and nurture the craft of internet sensation, Ikorodu Bois.
