It’s Full Course Meal As Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo Premieres

The much-anticipated film by the award-winninig Nigerian filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, is ready to be served like a sumptuous meal.

And in serving it on a global scale, the film, Anikulapo, which is a Netflix original, will hit audiences as a three-course meal.

The appetiser will be its world premiere come Sunday September 25 for a select audience at the Imax Cinema in Lekki, Lagos.

The main course will come with the desert on Friday September 30 when the film is released globally on Netflix and on the same day for a limited cinema run across Nigeria.

The September 30 release comes on a day that Afolayan will be celebrating his birthday, expectedly with some fanfare and a touch of culture and glamour.

Anikulapo is the second of the three-film plate that the Kwara state-born filmmaker and culture entrepreneur is producing and directing for Netflix as originals.

The film, which stars Kunle Remi and Bimbo Ademoye, delves into an intriguing narrative of life in the old Oyo empire and how two young lovers stumbled on the power to overcome death and restore lives.

But with unsual power comes temptation, greed and betrayal, all beautifully portrayed through the film’s stellar cast that included Hollwood-based Hakeem Kae- Kazeem, Sola Sobowale, Taiwo Hassan, Yinka Quadri, Fathia Williams, Baba Wande, Yemi Elebuibon, Ronke Oshodi-Oke and the Ikorodu Boiz, among others.

The film was shot over several weeks in tge northern part of Oyo State earlier this year.

It comes barely a year after the release of ‘Swallow’, the first in the three-film deal with Netflix.
