The film will be available for streaming on Netflix from February 7.
Azali follows the story of a 14-year-old, Amina, who flees an arranged marriage with a 70-year-old farmer. However, she ends up as a victim of human traffickers, but escapes and found her way to Accra, where she has to decide between returning home to the arranged marriage or surviving on her own.
Written by Gwandellen Quartey and directed by Kwabena Gyansah, the film made history when it was submitted as Ghana’s first film to the Oscars for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category but was rejected like Nigeria’s ‘Lionheart’.
However, the movie went on to pick 18 nominations at the 2019 Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) and won the best feature film at the 2018 edition of African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, Nigeria.
