Come March 17, 2022, stakeholders in the cinemas and wider film industry in Africa will gather at the CJ Cinema Summit to discuss growth potential in the industry on the continent.

The stakeholders will explore different development strategies against the backdrop of a rapidly changing film value chain, as international streaming platforms and other players begin to understand – and invest in – the growth opportunities for film and cinema-going on the continent.

The program will be co-chaired by Yaa Asantewa Asante, CEO of the National Film Authority of Ghana, and independent cinema consultant, Jan Runge.

Speakers include Patrick Von Sychowski, Editor, Celluloid Junkie, Jan Runge, Independent Cinema Consultant, Jan Runge Consulting, and Moses Babatope, Co-founder/Executive Director and Managing Director, Filmhouse Cinemas and FilmOne Entertainment.

Others include Funmilayo Marian Onuma, Country Manager, Silverbird Cinemas Ghana, Leila Masinaei; Managing Partner, Great Minds Group and Ike Dsane; CEO, Hype. UP.

They will speak to Marie Loria Mungai, Angel investor, strategic consultant, and writer-producer, Restless Global, and the author of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO report on the future of film and cinema in Africa and discuss growth strategies with regional and international operators and experts.

What needs to be done to better promote cinema-going across Africa, an audiovisual market valued at $5 billion and expected to be worth more than $20 billion by the above-mentioned UNESCO report.
