Four years after his last album, Ed Sheeran has set an October 29, 2021 release date for his fifth album titled “=” (Equals).
Sheeran took to his Instagram Live on August 19th, 2021 to make the announcement. He disclosed that the album has been influenced by his most recent life experiences of getting married, having a baby, and losing a close friend.
“I think it’s the best bit of work that I’ve done. It’s cohesive and it feels great” he disclosed.
In a written statement alongside the album, Sheeran said = is “a coming-of-age record. I’ve never been more proud of a body of work”.
The album will have 14-tracks and contains the emotionally charged song “Visiting Hours,” though not a single which was released directly after the Instagram Live was posted.
According to Sheeran, the next single is to be released on September 10th. The “Shape of You” singer shared that this particular song is “really dear to his heart and one of his favourite songs on the album.”
Bound to make any listener cry, the relatable lyrics, which were written about his mentor and friend, Michael Gudinski.
In September 2020, Sheeran announced the birth of his first child, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, with wife Cherry Seaborn, who he married in 2019.
