Nigerian singers, Danny Young and Tiwa Savage, have reached an out-of-court settlement over a copyright suit filed against Tiwa and Mavins Records.
Young, the plaintiff, sued Tiwa and Mavins for N205 million over her song, ‘One’ which he claimed was copied from his 2009 single, ‘Oju Tiwon’.
In a statement signed by his lawyers which he posted on his Instagram handle, Young lauded Tiwa’s management “for committing in good faith, time and efforts towards finding an amicable resolution to the dispute.”
“Mutual efforts in this regard have been successful and our Client and the Defendants, Tiwa Savage and Mavins Records Limited, have come to a common understanding and agreed terms for the discontinuation of the suit.
“Therefore, we shall no longer be proceeding with the court action,” the statement added.
This follows a wave of copyright suits filed amongst musicians for adopting certain recurring words or verses from already-produced songs.
