Maureen Achebe, the daughter of the late literary icon Chinua Achebe, has won the Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Award.
An Associate Professor at the Harvard Medical School, Achebe follows in the footsteps of her siblings who also have laurels of their own.
Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a world-class academic medical centre and a premier teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.
Maureen Achebe was notified of the award in a letter dated July 2, as revealed in a post by her sibling, Chidi Achebe.
The letter reads, “The 2024 Faculty Awards designation acknowledges the exceptional achievements of BWH faculty in one or more of the four pillars of academic life; clinical care, research, education, and community service.”
Maureen Achebe is a commissioner on the Lancet Non-Communicable Disease and Injuries (NCDI) Nigeria Poverty Commission as the sickle cell disease expert.
She coordinates the identification and prioritisation of policies, interventions, and integrated delivery platforms to tackle and reduce the SCD burden in Nigeria.
Brigham and Women’s Hospital revealed that she will be honoured for her achievements on October 28, 2024.
