Nigerian Afro-fusion artiste, Burna Boy, has earned his second consecutive Grammy awards nomination in the Best Global Music category for his latest album ‘Twice As Tall.’
Burna Boy’s 2019 album, ‘African Giant’ lost the same category to Anqelique Kidjo’s, ‘Celia’ at the 62nd edition of the awards.
For this edition of the Grammys, he is nominated in the category alongside Antibalas (Fu Chronicles), Bebel Gilbert (Agora), Anoushka Shankar (Love Letters) and Tinariwen (Amadjar).
If Burna Boy wins, he will become Nigeria’s first Grammy winner since Sikiru Adepoju won with Planet Drum over 10 years ago.
A few weeks ago, the Recording Academy announced the category formerly known as ‘Best World Music Album’ would become ‘Best Global Music Album’ to eliminate colonial connotations.
It has also announced that the award ceremony would be hosted by Trevor Noah and aired via CBS and CBS All Access on January 31, 2021.
