Emeka Akumefule, the Nigerian rapper better known as Blaqbonez, has addressed concerns online about his noticeable weight loss.

The concerns followed after the rapper posted a photo on X of himself wearing a British-inspired outfit — a turtleneck sweatshirt, shirt, and skirt — while sporting loose dreadlocks.

Fans quickly noticed his dramatic weight loss, with one asking if he was “losing his life”.

Blaqbonez explained that his thinner frame was due to difficulty eating while abroad, as he only enjoys Nigerian food.

The rapper also assured fans that his weight loss wasn’t health-related and promised to regain the pounds soon.

“My problem is I only like Nigerian food, so whenever I leave the country I struggle to eat, I been on the road for almost 2 months, barely eating, cos I want to give u guys the best album experience ever, I’d add some weight soon. No Excuses,” he wrote.

Blaqbonez first broke into mainstream consciousness with his 2021 debut album ‘Sex Over Love’.

His 2023 sophomore effort ‘Emeka Must Shine’ further cemented his status as one of Nigeria’s most innovative rap talents, earning him a spot on Rolling Stone’s ’50 Innovators Shaping Rap’s Future’ list in August 2023.

Despite his success, the rapper has been vocal about the pressures of fame, recently revealing how constant public scrutiny affects his personal life.
