South African singer Tyla has won the award category for Best African Music Performance at the Grammys for her song ‘Water’. In that same category, we have Nigerian singers, Davido, Burnaboy, and Ayra Starr, who were nominated under the same category.

Tyla is a having a blast in her career, with her songs trending all through last year, and into this year. She won this Grammy award at just twenty-two years old, which is a fairly young age for the Grammys. A lot of artist have come anf gone without v receiving the Grammys awards despite their extensive discography.

Some may argue that Tyla sprung out of nowhere and won a Grammy, but that is not true because she has been in the hand since 2019 immediately after high school. The South African singer has been very consistent with releasing her music, and she promoted them on social media passionately. The song ‘Water’ was heavily promoted, and even brought about a social media dance challenge that skyrocketed the listens for the song.

The Best Music Performance award was Tyla’s first nomination and she won it. This is a probably a huge win for her because getting recognition from the Grammys are a huge deal, and this shows that your songs have been recognized internationally.

Flooring four Nigerian musicians at an award show is a huge deal, and Tyla did it at just the age of twenty-two. This Grammy win from Tyla is a beacon of hope for Africans as a whole, because it has helped to put African music on a high pedestal for music.
