Former United States President, Barack Obama, has once again shared his summer playlist with a plethora of the year’s hit songs.
Obama’s playlist was recently published online the same night as his wife, Michelle’s speech at the US Democratic Convention.
“Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family,” Obama wrote as he published the playlist via his Twitter handle.
“As always, it’s a mix of genres that travels through various eras. I think there’s something in here for everybody – hope you enjoy it.”
Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy and Shatta Wale are some of the few artistes of African descent who featured on the playlist which is an annual tradition of the former statesman.
Afropop singer, Davido and fellow Nigerian alt-R&B singer, Tems, feature on the playlist for their ‘Know Your Worth (Remix)’ collaboration with American R&B/Pop singer, Khalid and the English duo, Disclosure.
Grammy-nominated afrofusion singer, Burna Boy, also made the playlist for platinum-certified ‘Be Honest’ track on which he collaborated with British soul singer, Jorja Smith. Another Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, is also on the playlist for his ‘Smile’ collaboration with H.E.R. which was released in July.
Obama also listed Jamaican talents Popcaan (‘Twist & Turn’ ft. Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR), Princess Nokia (‘Gemini’), Koffee (‘Don’t Walk Away’ collaboration with John Legend) and the classic Bob Marley & The Wailers (‘Could You Be Loved’) on the playlist.
As expected, Shatta Wale and Major Lazer are on the list for their epic ‘Already’ collaboration with Beyoncé, whose ‘Black is King’ visual album featuring numerous African talents was recently released.
Other non-African artistes on the playlist include Grammy-award winner Billie Eilish, Jennifer Hudson, Common, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, and Summer Walker, among others.
