Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr, recently sat down with Billboard to share the backstories behind some of her most iconic pictures.
On her viral bathroom selfie with American pop star Coco Jones and R&B crooner, Ayra jokingly claimed that she was the first African to take bathroom selfie at the Met Gala despite Tems who was also in the photo, being African.
“First African to take a bathroom selfie at the MET Gala, period!,” she said.
Recall that Ayra Starr made her Met Gala debut at the 2025 edition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, on 5 May.
She joined other celebrities such as fellow singers Burna Boy, Tems and Tyla; renowned novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and popular designer Swanky Jerry, as part of the African contingent to the world’s foremost fashion event.
