Bush Doctor Studios’ debut feature film, Anu (Mercy), produced and directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Temitope Jude Egwu, has won the Best Nollywood Film Award at the 2026 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).

Bush Doctor Studios’ debut feature film, Anu (Mercy), produced and directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Temitope Jude Egwu, has won the Best Nollywood Film Award at the 2026 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).

The award marks a significant milestone for the filmmaker and Bush Doctor Studios, coming as the feature makes its mark on the international film festival circuit.

The 2026 edition of TINFF was held in Toronto, Canada, bringing together filmmakers, actors, producers and cinema enthusiasts from different parts of the world.

Anu (Mercy) was among the films selected for screening at the festival and was screened on Friday, September 11, 2026, where it received positive reactions from the audience.

The film’s recognition at the festival further highlights the growing international interest in Nigerian stories and filmmakers working to take Nollywood productions to a global audience.

Following the announcement of the award, Egwu expressed his appreciation to the people who contributed to the production and success of the film.

The filmmaker specifically acknowledged his co-director, Wale Ilebiyi, for his contribution to the project, while also thanking the cast and crew for their commitment and efforts throughout the production.

Egwu also celebrated the award with everyone who played a role in bringing Anu (Mercy) to the screen, describing the recognition as a shared achievement.

In an emotional gesture, the filmmaker dedicated the award to the late Nollywood veteran, Mrs Alwell Ademola Eniobanke, in recognition of her contribution to the Nigerian film industry.

“I would like to dedicate the award to the late Mrs Alwell Ademola. May her legacy never be forgotten,” Egwu said.

The Best Nollywood Film award adds to the growing profile of Anu (Mercy) and represents an important achievement for Bush Doctor Studios as it makes its debut on the international festival stage.

For Egwu, the recognition also underscores the potential of Nigerian filmmakers to tell compelling local stories while connecting with audiences beyond Nigeria.
