Actress Akuapem Poloo who released nude photos with her 7-year-old son in June 2020 has been convicted by a Ghanaian court.

The actress was arraigned on three counts of publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence, a conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.

Akuapem pleaded “not guilty” when she was first arraigned but entered a guilty plea when re-arraigned on Wednesday, April 14. She was then convicted by Judge Christiana Cann of Accra Circuit Court on her own plea.

Local Ghanaian media reports that the court has deferred Akuapem’s sentencing to Friday, April 16 for her to undergo a pregnancy test in compliance with the law regarding a woman who has pleaded guilty in court.

The actress had posted the photos on the occasion of her son’s birthday and claimed it was “unintentional”.

The photos which went viral on social media were captioned: “I am naked in front of you because this is how naked I was giving birth to you, so in case you find me lying somewhere don’t pass by but see me as your mom who brought you to life.”

The viral photos has generated a huge controversy in Ghana and Nigeria especially with critics claiming she posted the photos just to trend.
She faces a three-year jail term.
