Actor, writer and director, Yinka Ogundaisi is dead.
The passing of the man who repackaged the longest-running Yoruba TV programme, ‘Feyikogbon’, was announced on Wednesday by artist Ropo Ewenla on the Ibadan Film Circle Group that Ogundaisi also belonged.
It read, “Today, this morning, one phase of history ended. Erin ti wo. The elephant rises no more. Yinka Ogundaisi bid this world farewell at dawn. It was Kate Adepegba who dropped the bomb on my lap. I called Uncle Yinka’s number to confirm, and rudely, it was so.”
Ogundaisi, who had been poorly for several years, was a cast member of ‘The Village Headmaster’ and wrote ‘The Charmed Lock’, a crime fiction. Some of his movie credits include ‘Give and Take’, ‘Destiny’, ‘Hostess’, ‘Omoge’, ‘Pardonable, ‘Unforgiveable’ and the drama series ‘Happy Homes’.
He first became unwell around 2013 with complications of twisted intestines, hernia and enlarged prostate. Some of his colleagues rallied around him to ensure he got treatment.
In 2020, associates again rallied to raise money for urgent surgery to treat collapsed backbones that had trapped nerves, making him unable to walk. Besides his creative engagements, Ogundaisi was also a critical voice in policy and film distribution. He worked on a distribution framework for the National Films and Video Censors Board to help solve the piracy problem.
