Tomoloju’s ‘100 Songs’ celebrates Freedom Park @ 10

Less than two months after the unveiling of his 100 Songs App on Google Play, multi-talented artiste and media personality, Benson Tomoloju, is billed to perform at the Freedom Park @ 10 Celebrations as a special guest artiste.

The Freedom Park @ 10 celebration is a month-long event which began on September 30 and will run till October 30, 2020. It features lectures, concerts, exhibitions and performances, among others.

Tomoloju will be performing some of the 100 Songs for the first time since their release in August by Concrete Communications on Sunday October 18, 2020 live and via the Zoom app.

A culture communicator, he described his songs as a reflection of “the choral polyphony of Ilaje people.

“They are a hundred in number. But the hundred are just a fraction – between a quarter and a third – of my repertoire of original compositions. It is a bumper harvest of music with a crossover appeal,” stated Tomoloju who was at various times Arts Editor and Deputy Editor of The Guardian Newspaper.

The songs, some of which were harvested from Tomoloju’s popular plays, have been dedicated to members of the Kakaaki Arts Kult, a group he founded in 1980 during his days as a secondary school teacher in Lagos. He is reputed to have mentored some of the icons in performing arts and the media today.

Also a renowned playwright and theatre director, some of his plays have been performed beyond the shores of Nigeria as he has also represented the country in various cultural missions.

Some of his published plays include ‘Jankariwo’, ‘Askari’, ‘We Only Went In Search Of Happiness’, ‘Just Married’ and a host of others.
