It’s a musical week in Lagos as music stars, celebrities, technicians, and media personnel from.sll over Africa converge on Lagos for this year’s edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). The formost continental musucal awards scheme in Africa commences today Wednesday with arrival cocktail programme and networking and will climax with tbe main award cereminy at Eko hotel on Sunday November 24, 2019.
AFRIMA, undoutedly one of Africa’s biggest music events is bringing together music lovers, cultural enthusiasts and stars from across Africa and the Diaspora with a 4-day line-up.
In its sixth edition this year, and with the theme ‘Feel Africa’, the ceremony will kick-off with the AFRIMA Welcome Soiree – a reception in honour of arriving AFRIMA nominees and delegates, African Union officials, members of the International Committee of AFRIMA, international and local media as well as other guests. The soiree starts today at 6pm m at the poolside of Eko Hotels &Suites, Lagos.
On Thursday, November 21, music lovers will be treated to a 12-hour concert-style music festival with live performances from A-list and upcoming artistes at the Agege Stadium, Lagos. AFRIMA nominees and past winners will also be thrilling the crowd. With a change in venue this year, AFRIMA said it has “decided to take the Music Village to the community where the people reside”. Previous AFRIMA music village were held at the Bar Beach/Eko Atlantic city.
The event will be broadcast live on several stations across the world.
The Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos, will host music professionals, executives, government officials, and other stakeholders in the
music, media and financial sectors of Africa on Friday, November 22 for the African Music Business Summit. AMBS is an annual summit of networking and
interaction that discusses the potentials inherent in the African music industry and ways to harness its socio-economic gains. This year’s summit, ‘Music Business in Africa: Connecting Borderless Talents’, will feature Cameroonian producer and founder of Alpha Beta Records, Salatiel, amongst others. The ‘Fire and Ice’ nominees’ party follows on Friday evening.
The main awards ceremony will close this year’s AFRIMA on Sunday November 24 at the Eko Convention Centre on the grounds of Eko Hotel & Suites,Lagos. According to the Chief Executive Producer of Afrima, Mike Dada, the awards ceremony is aimed at celebrating African creativity and culture as well as reward African artistes who emerge winners in the continental and regional categories ranging from classic contemporary to traditional genres of music. African music veterans will also be specially recognised and honoured with the AFRIMA Legend Awards.
This year’s main event will be anchored by the duo of South African actress and media personality, Pearl Thusi and British-Congolese comedian, Eddie Kadi.
Hundreds of African music stars are expected to storm Lagos for the event.
Performing to over 4,000 live audiences will be Nigeria’s Legendary singer, 2Baba; Congolese star, Fally Ipupa; South African rapper, Nasty C; Tanzanian Afropop star, Rayvanny; Ghana’s Afro-pop, dancehall and reggae act, Stonebwoy; and Egyptian singer, Mohamed Ramadan, amongst others.
AFRIMA will be broadcast live on DSTV Channel 198, GOTV Channel 29, Africa Independent Television (AIT), Raypower FM Network, Kennis FM, Silverbird
Television (STV), HIP TV, AFRIMA social media handles, website and app, among others.
