Wizkid Succumbs To Pressure, Announces Date For Album Release

by The Culture Newspaper September 2, 2024
by The Culture Newspaper September 2, 2024

Wizkid came online briefly and made a post on his Instagram story, and that cost him his peace, as fans flooded him with messages, asking him when he would release his ‘Morayo’ album.

The talented singer posted some screenshots of the messages he got from fans hackling him and asking for an album release date.

Followed by the screenshots he shared, Wizkid announced that Morayo the album would be released by 1pm today.

Wizkid has been stringing his fans for a hot minute because he started teasing the release of his album since the beginning of the year.

This album came with a lot of terms and conditions from Wizkid, as he gave his fans a forewarning about what not to expect.

Recall that earlier this year, Wizkid had posted that fans shouldn’t expect the ‘Pakurumo Wizkid’ anymore because his sound has changed and evolved.

Also, he asked that no one should categorize him under the Afrobeats category because he’s not an Afrobeats artist.

This statement about Afrobeats irked some netizens, as they proceeded to drag Wizkid, but he paid no mind to their concerns.

On the matter of Wizkid’s sound changing, there has been a notable difference between how he used to sound and now.

There’s a huge difference between Wizkid’s ‘Don’t Dull’ song which was released over a decade ago, and his song ‘Essence’, featuring Tems.

The statement Wizkid made about his fans not expecting the ‘Pakurumo Wizkid’ is deeply rooted in the fact that he doesn’t sound like he used to.

Although the singer’s sound has evolved, with fans complaining about the switch from dancehall to more subtle sounds, he still remains at the top, among artists with huge fan bases in Nigeria and beyond.

Wizkid’s Morayo album was named after his late mother, who he lost months ago, and he dedicated the album to her in order to honor her.
