Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Wizkid, has snagged two nominations at the forthcoming 64th Grammy Awards, according to the Recording Academy.
The Academy announced the nominations for each of the 86 categories for the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards show holding early next year on Tuesday.
Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ album was nominated for Best Global Music Album alongside Femi and Made Kuti’s Legacy +, Angelique Kidjo’s Mother Nature and Rocky Dawumi’s Voice of Bunbon Volume 1.
He was also nominated alongside fellow compatriots – Burna Boy and Tems for Best Global Music Performance.
Femi Kuti and his son, Made, were also nominated in the same categories as Wizkid.
Next year’s Grammies will therefore be the most rewarding for Nigerian music in terms of the number of nominations I a given year.
Femi Kuti, a regular on the Grammy’s World Global Music Album Category, this year, got a nod alongside his son for their collaborative effort in Legacy +.
The late afrobeat legend’s son also clinched a nomination for Best Global Music Performance.
Femi’s son, Made, who had recently begun to gain attention on the afrojazz music scene, made his solo debut at a memorable musical experience at Terra Kulture Arena in Lagos back in July. He also got his first award nomination at the 2021 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in the African Jazz category.
