Organisers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have released the much-expected nominees list for the 2020 edition of the awards.
President of the this year’s AMAA jury, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, announced the decision of the Jury in a broadcast on AMAA’s social media platforms on Monday evening.
In its 16th year, the 2020 AMAA is themed ‘Hope’ and aimed at rewarding exceptional works by African filmmakers and those in the diaspora as well as recognise the fact that filmmakers have been working relentlessly amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.
Two of Nigeria’s most accomplished films recently produced – The Milkmaid by Desmond Ovbiagele and Akin Omotoso’s The Ghost and the House of Truth, are up against stiff competition from the continent’s most celebrated films from Ghana, South Africa, Lesotho, Burkina Fasso and Kenya.
The rich line-up of this year’s Best Licture award includes Knucle City, which represented South Africa at this year’s Academy Awards.
The AMAA awards ceremony is slated for Sunday December 20, 2020 in a hybrid event that will be broadcast live from Lagos via zoom and cable tv.
