Nigerian singing sensation, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has made history at the 2022 BET awards as she became the first African female to win the Best International Act Category.

The 2022 award ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA. The BET Awards celebrate Black excellence in music, culture and sports.

Tems edged out fellow compatriot Fireboy, Dave (UK), Dinos (France), Fally Ipupa (Congo), Little Simz (UK), Ludmilla (Brazil), Major League Djz (South Africa), and Tayc (France) to emerge winner in the category.

She also clinched the Best Collaboration Award with Wizkid’s Essence (remix) featuring Justin Bieber.
