South African singer, Tyla, has praised award-winning Nigerian songstress, Tems, for opening the doors to global recognition for female artists in Africa.
In a recent interview on Kiss Fresh FM, Tyla described Tems as an “amazing” singer who paved the way for African female artistes globally.
She also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with her.
The Grammy Award winner said: “Amazing. Tems is so talented. She is literally a force. I am so honoured to have worked with her. She has opened so many doors for us.
“We made such a beautiful song with such a beautiful message. It is a song for the girls and it is made by the girls.”
Reacting, Tems courteously accepted the accolades, and expressed confidence that Tyla is similarly empowering young South African girls through her music.
“Man, it is an honour, I am very very, 100% sure that she’s inspiring many many many many South African babe, many girls around the world as well”, she said.
In 2023, Tyla gained global popularity for her single ‘Water’ which entered the top 10 in sixteen countries including the United Kingdom and United States.
‘Water’ was the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years.
In February, the singer won her first Grammy Award in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for ‘Water’.
Tems, on the other hand, won her first-ever Grammy award in 2023.
