Award-winning Nigerian artiste, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has been credited as a songwriter on Beyonce’s forthcoming album ‘Renaissance’.
Beyonce, during the week, unveiled the tracklist for her forthcoming 16-track seventh studio album, which is slated for release on June 29.
Tems is credited on track 10, ‘Move’, off Renaissance. Also credited on the album is Nigerian-British producer Richard Olowaranti Mbu Isong (P2J).
On Wednesday, the Grammy-winning singer unveiled the ‘Renaissance’ tracklist via Instagram nine days before the project officially hits streaming services. The 16 song titles include the previously released hit “Break My Soul,” as well as “I’m That Girl,” “Plastic on the Sofa,” “Thique,” “All Up In Your Mind,” and “America Has a Problem.”
“Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world. It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving,” Beyonce wrote in a note shared on social media.
“My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgement. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking. A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”
‘Renaissance’ is Beyonce’s first solo project since 2016’s Lemonade. Since then, she had released Everything Is Love with her husband, Jay-Z; Homecoming: The Live Album, which was recorded during her headlining gig at Coachella 2018; and The Lion King: The Gift, a soundtrack for the 2019 Disney remake.
Tems gained international prominence for her role in ‘Essence’, her collaborative song with Wizkid. She thereafter enlisted on songs with Future and Drake, both international rappers.
In June, she won the ‘Best International Act’ category at the 2022 BET Awards. The prize made her the first Nigerian female artiste to clinch the prestigious category.
