Fast rising Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has become the first African to be nominated in three categories at the BET awards.
Tems was nominated for Best New Artist, Best International Act, and Best Collaboration for Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ remix featuring Justin Bieber.
Fellow compatriots, Wizkid and Fireboy DML, received two and one nominations, respectively.
Wizkid was nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, while Fireboy DMl was nominated for Best International Act.
Doja Cat leads the group of nominees with six nominations, followed closely by Drake and Ari Lennox who received four each.
The Taraji P. Henson-hosted show will be broadcast live on BET at 8pm on Sunday June 26, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
