Spotify Unveils New Feature For Weekly Music Recaps

Spotify has unveiled a major update for its global community, introducing “Listening Stats”, an interactive and highly shareable feature that gives listeners a dynamic recap of their music week.

Phiona Okumu, Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

“The platform is always innovating ways to bring fans closer to the artistes and sounds that matter, and this new feature is a game-changer for music conversation.

“This new data view is designed to be living and breathing, it updates every 24 hours, giving you a continuous, real-time look at your current musical direction and ensuring the freshest personalised recommendations are waiting for you, ” Okumu said.

She said that every week, users would get a deep dive into their top artistes and songs over the last month, complemented by brand new playlists that intelligently capture the essence of what they have been enjoying.

“A key element is the special weekly highlight, which can mark a significant milestone, a brilliant new discovery, or simply demonstrate the unique flavour of your personal sound,” she said.

According to her, the stats are built for social interaction, which can instantly post snapshots, compare tunes, and peep at what friends, family, or co-workers are listening to.

“Like its popular personalised siblings, daylist, Release Radar, and Discover Weekly, Listening Stats is about exploring and defining your unique sound, making it the perfect musical prelude and exciting warm-up to Wrapped, Spotify’s much-loved year-end spectacle,” Okumu said.
