SNA, MUSON thrill art, music lovers at Music Meets Art

It is a fusion of Music and Arts at the ongoing 2019 Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Festival. The Society of Nigerian Artists, SNA partnered with MUSON to thrill music and art lovers with a first of its kind “Music Meets Art” event which is part of activities marking this year’s MUSON festival and it has lived up to its pre-festival hype.

The 10-day celebration is playing host to eminent personalities from the African arts industry, Embassies, High Commissions, music and art lovers and students at the Function Room of the MUSON centre daily.

The three-part programme is featuring an art exhibition, art auction and awards dinner at the MUSON Centre, Lagos.

This year’s programme is a 2-pronged affair which comprised a masterclass and exhibition which held on October 18 and 19 at MUSON, the masterclass was supervised by well-known artists and provided the highest level of instruction in drawing, painting, and sculpture to students and more accomplished professionals alike who wish to enhance their skills. A selection of the most outstanding portraits will be exhibited from October 20 to 26 while part of the money raised will be donated to charity.

The highlight of the exhibition will be a seven-year compilation showcase by Diseye Tantua, renowned artist, about artists living in Ghana and Nigeria; their working lives, thinking processes and inspiration as well as artworks done by sickle cell patients to support the fight against sickle cell anaemia.

An awards dinner will be held in honour of the celebrated artist, Kolade Oshinowo, to mark his 70th birthday anniversary.

The art auction of select pieces from the exhibition will raise funds towards achieving the SNA’s objectives including a new secretariat and an academic journal.

Renowned for celebrating Arts, this year’s MUSON Festival will feature performances from local and international performances.

Monday, October 21 as Music and Arts Lover will be treated to Igbeyawo; A Musical at the Shell Hall by the MUSON School Alumni Association.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Rebecca Omordia; an international virtuoso pianist will be treating music lovers to a Festival Masterclass at the AGIP Recital Hall. That same Wednesday, there will be an International Cultural Night at the Shell Nigeria Hall featuring dances from Arts Afrique Dance Troupe, Azerbaijan Dance Group, Huaxing Dance Troupe, Footprints of David Troupe and the Brazil and Columbia Troupe.

By Thursday, October, 24 Rebecca Omordia and Muson Artistes will treat music lovers to special numbers.

It will be time to celebrate Members, Friends and Family of MUSON at a MUSON Day Celebration at the AGIP Recital Hall on Friday, October 25. It will feature performances from The Diploma School of Music Students, Orchestra Fanfare while there will also be an induction ceremony for new members.

Yinka Davies, Imoleayo Balogun, Mikifa, Ajidans Drum Ensemble and the MUSON Diploma Band will be treating Jazz lovers to a Festival Jazz Party at the Shell Nigeria Hall on Saturday, October 26.

Sunday, October 27 will witness a Festival Gala Concert at the Walter-Michael Vollhardt, A German Conductor and Cellist while Rebeca Omordia and The Muson Choir and Symphony conducted by Sir Emeka Nwokedi will also be thrilling fans.

The festival will climax on October 27, 2019, and if you are a music and art lover and you are yet to attend, MUSON and SNA are asking what you are waiting for.
