Seun Kuti Kickstarts Europe Tour Amid Assault Trial

Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has kickstarted his European tour in Zurich, Switzerland.

In a post shared on his Insta Story during the week, the singer shared a picture of himself on the plane.

“Euro tour kicks off tonight in Zurich,” he captioned the post.

This came barely 48hrs after the singer was released on bail for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The Afrobeat singer had surrendered himself to the Lagos Police Command headquarters after the Inspector-General of Police ordered his arrest for assaulting a policeman in Lagos.

He was subsequently detained at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) after a magistrate’s court in Lagos ordered his remand.

The police had sought to get an order to further keep him in custody for 21 days pending the conclusion of its investigation but the court directed that Kuti be detained for another 48 hours and then release him on bail.

Following the expiration of the 48 hours, the court extended the musician’s remand for another 96 hours to enable the police continue with its investigation.

She also ordered that his file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and subsequently adjourned the trial till May 22.

The trial was, however, shifted to Tuesday but the court failed to sit on that day.

It remains unclear if the musician could be said to have jumped bail or his bail conditions permit him to leave the country.

His tour has continued in different cities of Finland.

The controversial but talented musician has also updated his social media profile by adding
“Senior Marshall, Cell One, Panti”, apparently to reflect the title he was given by fellow inmates in the cell where he was detained.
