Saudi Arabia Tourism Surges As Global Arrivals And Luxury Travel Power Vision 2030

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – In terms of the tourism history of Saudi Arabia, things have gone from big plans to big momentum on the global scene, and the numbers make it quite hard to overlook. International visitors have risen sharply from their pre-COVID level, and the Travel & Tourism GDP of Saudi Arabia was $178 billion in 2025 as per the World Travel & Tourism Council. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia now stands as the biggest Travel & Tourism economy in the Middle East, and Saudi Arabia’s Tourism strategy has taken a step further than the initial 100 million visitors goal.

International Arrivals Are Racing Ahead
Saudi Arabia’s international tourism performance has become one of the strongest stories in the global travel market. ExploringMiddle Eastern Cultural Goods

The Saudi Tourism Authority reports that the Kingdom recorded 69% growth in international tourist numbers compared with 2019, leading the G20 on this measure.

The country’s wider visitor economy is even larger. According to the OECD, Saudi Arabia recorded 122.6 million overnight visitors in 2025, exceeding its original Vision 2030 target of 100 million for the third consecutive year.

That milestone prompted the Kingdom to raise its ambition to 150 million tourists by 2030.

And yes, that is a rather serious upgrade.

Saudi Arabia Becomes the Middle East’s Tourism Giant
The economic numbers are just as striking.

WTTC’s 2026 research confirmed Saudi Arabia as the largest Travel & Tourism economy in the Middle East, contributing $178 billion to GDP in 2025 and accounting for 46% of the region’s total Travel & Tourism economy. The sector grew 7.4% during the year, substantially ahead of global Travel & Tourism growth of 4.1%. ExploringMiddle Eastern Cultural Goods

International visitor spending also increased 8.2%, while business travel spending rose by more than 55%.

For travellers, the significance is straightforward: Saudi Arabia is building a tourism ecosystem that serves leisure holidays, cultural trips, luxury escapes, business travel and major international events.

The 150 Million Visitor Target Is the Next Challenge
Saudi Arabia’s original tourism ambition was to welcome 100 million domestic and international tourists annually by 2030.

That target was reached ahead of schedule.

The Kingdom has now raised the goal to 150 million visitors by 2030, making tourism a central part of its wider economic diversification programme.

The strategy is supported by major investments in destinations, accommodation, aviation connectivity and visitor experiences.

For international travellers, that translates into a rapidly expanding choice of places to visit, from the historic landscapes of AlUla and Diriyah to the Red Sea coast and major urban centres such as Riyadh and Jeddah. LearningA New Language Online

Mastercard Brings Data Into the Tourism Strategy
Here is where the tourism machine gets decidedly more sophisticated.

In August 2026, the Saudi Tourism Authority and Mastercard announced a collaboration designed to attract international visitors from priority markets while supporting the 150-million visitor target.

The partnership will use Mastercard Economics Institute data and insights covering visitor segmentation, spending patterns, travel trends, event impact measurement and predictive analytics.

The collaboration also includes curated cultural experiences through Mastercard’s Priceless platform.

For travellers, the practical impact could be more targeted tourism campaigns and experiences tailored around where visitors come from, what they spend on and which destinations or activities interest them.

Luxury Tourism Gets a Major Role
Saudi Arabia’s tourism expansion is not being built around one type of traveller.

The Kingdom has developed high-end destinations including the Red Sea, AlUla and Diriyah, combining luxury accommodation with cultural, natural and heritage experiences.

The Red Sea is particularly important for travellers interested in coastal escapes, while AlUla offers archaeological landscapes, desert scenery and heritage experiences.

Diriyah provides another cultural dimension, centred on the historic At-Turaif district and the development of a broader tourism and hospitality destination.

Together, these projects give Saudi Arabia a portfolio that reaches far beyond conventional city tourism.

Culture and Heritage Are Driving Travel
Saudi Arabia’s tourism proposition is also becoming increasingly connected to heritage.

Travellers can explore ancient archaeological sites in AlUla, historic districts in Diriyah and cultural attractions across the Kingdom.

Religious tourism remains another major component, with Mecca and Medina continuing to draw millions of visitors each year.

The country’s expanding leisure tourism offer is therefore being layered onto an established cultural and religious travel base, creating a broader destination proposition.

Major Events Will Keep Visitors Coming
Saudi Arabia is also preparing for a packed calendar of global events.

The Kingdom is scheduled to host Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup 2034, alongside other international sporting and entertainment events. LearningA New Language Online

These events are expected to add new waves of international travel while encouraging visitors to extend stays beyond the event itself.

For tourism operators, that creates opportunities to connect event travel with city breaks, heritage tours, desert experiences, coastal holidays and luxury accommodation.

Travel Connectivity Remains Crucial
With the visitor target rising to 150 million, aviation and transport connectivity will remain essential.

The country’s expanding international network allows travellers from long-haul and regional markets to access destinations across Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh and Jeddah function as major gateways, while the growing tourism infrastructure around AlUla and the Red Sea is creating additional reasons for visitors to travel beyond the main cities.

The tourism strategy is therefore increasingly about connecting multiple destinations into a single journey.
