The fifth edition of the Nigeria Tourism Awards, which is slated to hold on Friday May 20, 2022 will honour Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with the Best Tourism Governor award.
Sanwo-Olu and the winners in other categories emerged following a careful and diligent scoring process introduced in 2020, a statement made available to TCN said.
It added that this year’s edition of the awards is significant in that it represents the struggles of the tourism industry, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The 5th edition of Nigeria Tourism Awards is a landmark one for us as it symbolizes the growth and resilience of an industry battling for survival following the devastation occasioned by the Covid pandemic. Nigeria Tourism Awards recognizes those tourism organizations and individuals who have sought creative ways to excel and grow brand Nigeria,” the statement quoted CEO of the awards, Efetobo Awhana, as saying.
The event is billed to hold at the Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel in Lagos and is expected to attract an assemblage of eminent personalities in the tourism industry.
According to the press statement, the most anticipated categories for the 5th edition will go to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Best Tourism Governor), Chief Abiodun Odusanwo (Tourism Personality of the Year), Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf (Best Tourism Commissioner), and Park Vega Water Park (Best Family Amusement Centre). Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Tope Ogbeni-Awe, a marketing communications expert who has contributed massively to the growth of the tourism industry for decades.
The ceremony will also celebrate industry icons who have contributed to the growth of tourism in Nigeria.
Also speaking on the significance of the event, the Awards Coordinator, Nnena Fakoya-Smith said: “Nigeria Tourism Awards remains the most prestigious award celebrating innovation and excellence in Nigeria’s tourism industry. It is a strong platform to showcase the work of the best of the industry and promote outstanding brands and stakeholders.”
