According to the U.S. Travel Association, Memorial Day weekend will mark the beginning of a record-breaking summer travel season.
AAA forecasts that almost 44 million travelers will travel this Memorial Day weekend, 90% of which will travel by car, up 1 million from four years ago.
AAA also found that the busiest times on the road for the coming weekend are Thursday between noon and 6 p.m. and Friday between noon and 7 p.m. local time.
Additionally, peak traffic is anticipated between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday. Air travel is also expected to spike massively this Memorial Day weekend, with an estimated 8%-10% increase in passenger volume, according to the TSA. This represents a 35% increase from pre-pandemic air travel volumes and the busiest Memorial Day weekend on record.
According to United Airlines’ numbers, 3 million travelers are planned to fly between May 23 and 28, which is up five% from the same period last year.
