PMAN Pledges Reforms To Boost Sector In Abuja

‎The Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has pledged to introduce reforms that will strengthen the industry in Abuja.

Acting Governor, Federal Capital Territory chapter of PMAN, Michael Oyibo Kaycee in a press briefing on Friday, said plans are underway to partner with music academics, private investors, and international cultural organizations to reposition Abuja as Nigeria’s leading hub for live music excellence and other types of entertainment.

‎He said the initiative will bring about ‎training and empowering of 3,000 youths in the FCT in areas of instrumental performance, live band professionalism, music business, and production.
‎
Kaycee said, “we must be honest with ourselves. In recent years, the union has not fully lived up to the expectations of its members. This has been largely due to long-standing internal disagreements, lack of continuity in leadership direction, and reduced member engagement—factors that have slowed growth and affected the welfare and career development of our members.
‎
‎”But today, we declare a new beginning. Today marks a turning point: a shift from stagnation to structure, from division to unity, and from potential to performance.
‎
‎”Let me clearly state that PMAN operates within the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Our existence is backed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, particularly Section 40, which guarantees the freedom of association, and further strengthened by the Trade Union Act, which empowers unions like ours to regulate, organize, and protect the interests of our members.

“Therefore, everything we do as a union is guided by legality, structure, and accountability.
‎
‎”This administration is not about an individual. It is about collective leadership, shared responsibility, and visible results. We are committed to transparency, inclusiveness, and action.
‎
‎”I call on every member and stakeholder. This is your union. Your voice matters. Your participation is not optional; it is essential.
‎
‎”Given the limited time of this administration, we are focused on delivering practical, measurable, and lasting results. And this includes institutional regulation and strong governance. We will build a structured, disciplined, and credible union that earns the trust and recognition of government and stakeholders.
‎
‎”We are going to establish a clear administrative system, strengthen documentation and data management, and introduce digital membership registration and ID systems because that is very, very important. Our goal is to leave behind a functional institution, not just an administration.
‎Secretariat.
‎
‎”A union without a base is a union without direction. We will aggressively pursue the establishment of a standard PMAN FCT Secretariat to serve as administrative headquarters, meeting and training hub, and welfare and support centre”
‎
Kaycee urged the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to support its vision as PMAN contributes significantly to youth engagement, economic activity, youth empowerment, and industry developmenT.
