Top journalist and former Vice-President of Nigeria Guild of Editors, Ali M. Ali, has called out the management of MAX Air after he described his flight experience from Kano to Abuja last wednesday as one with “all the known discomfort”.
This is coming barely three weeks after MAX Air aircraft, a boeing 744, carrying 579 Niger state pilgrims and officials crash-landed, causing panic at the Minna International Airport. An accident the airline claimed was caused by bad weather and poor airport conditions.
Ali also compared the aircraft to a “flying molue”.
In a post on his facebook, Ali said: “Just disembarked from Max Air flight VM1645 from Kano to Lagos via Abuja…. it was a flying molue with all the known discomfort… faulty air condition…the heat was barely bearable ….it triggered an asthmatic attack on a hapless passenger…. strangely no first aid box on board ….a fellow passenger salvaged the situation …..a courageous hostess with a plastic smile bid us farewell on arrival …. the consolation was…..it departed on time ….molue upgraded!!!”
In a similar vein, other Facebook users also aired their opinions and experiences with local air travel:
Ruth Tene: Very sad….risking the lives of people who pay…..what will it take for us to do right as a people?
Raliat Ahmed Yusuf: I’ ve vowed never to fly Max air again…..my experience from Saudi Arabia to Abuja is better left unsaid.
Nnanke Harry Willie: I thought we had grown beyond this
Mukhtar Ismail: Very bad indeed! We are all taking risks. Allah Shi tsaremu… If leaders had modernised our railways, i will prefer travelling by speed trains to Lagos and elsewhere. This is just one out of the hundreds of the treachery of our leaders. Allah Ya isa!!
Steve Abar: Obviously the regulator is waiting for a tragedy to occur before they’ll take appropriate action. Sad reality of our nation.
All attempt to get Max Air’s response by TCN proved abortive.
