Omah Lay Claims He’s The Greatest Afrobeats Artiste ‘When It Comes To Art’

Nigerian singer-songwriter Omah Lay, born Omah Stanley Didia, has declared himself the greatest Afrobeats act of the decade, with many wondering where Burna Boy, Wizkid, among others, stand.

However, the 28-year-old clarified his claims, stating that he may not be considered in terms of streaming numbers, personality, or fame, but that when it comes to art, he is the greatest.

The Grammy Nominee said this during a chat with Capital XTRA, disclosing his achievements and talents.

“I am the greatest Afrobeats artist of the decade, I am the greatest. Well, you can say that numbers and personality or the level of fame, then maybe you will not consider me. But when you come to making art, I’m the greatest,” he remarked.

The songwriter was propelled into the spotlight and global stage through singles “Bad Influence”, “Do Not Disturb”, “Godly”, “Understand”, “Attention”, and “Soso”.

The Artiste’s debut studio album, Boy Alone, launched in 2022, followed by a deluxe edition in 2023, which received widespread praise.

In 2022, he was recognised as Boomplay’s Most Streamed Male Artist of the Year. He received nominations at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) for Best Male Artist in Western Africa and Song of the Year for “Understand” in 2023.

The pop star sold out his headline concert at the O2 Academy Brixton in London in 2024, a significant achievement on the international stage.

Early this year, Omah Lay was nominated at the Grammys in the Best African Music Performance category for his teamwork with Davido, ‘With You,’ but lost to South Africa’s Tyla.
