Nollywood Braces For Blockbuster Premiere As ‘Avante’ Sets March 29 Debut

The Nigerian film industry is gearing up for a major cinematic event as Avante prepares for its exclusive grand premiere on March 29, 2026, sparking excitement among film enthusiasts and industry stakeholders.

Anticipation has been steadily building around the production, which features a strong ensemble cast and the direction of an accomplished filmmaker. Industry insiders describe the project as one of the most emotionally charged Nollywood releases expected this year.

Leading the cast is award-winning actor Chimezie Imoh, widely recognized for his acclaimed performance in The Breath of Life. A recipient of the Trailblazer Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Imoh has earned praise for portraying complex characters with depth and emotional intensity. In Avante, he is expected to deliver another powerful performance in a role that demands both vulnerability and strength.

He is joined by Kingsley Okafor, known for his role in the drama series Marriage Stunts, which aired on Amazon’s streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. In the film, Okafor plays a ruthless General whose violent past as a Colonel continues to haunt him, adding tension and moral complexity to the storyline.

Also starring is Patience Ujah, who rose to prominence for her role as Seyken in the popular television series Halita on Africa Magic. Her expanding filmography includes roles in Eagle Wings, Katangari Goes to Town, and the series Dear Future Me, reinforcing her reputation as one of Nollywood’s versatile talents.

Veteran actor Eddie Watson also features in the production. Watson is known for roles in The Waiter on Netflix and appearances linked to The Real Housewives of Abuja on Showmax. His extensive work across African cinema has made him a recognizable face to audiences across the continent.

The cast lineup further includes Maliya, known for roles in productions such as Laurie, The Slave Husband, and Muna. Completing the ensemble is Cameroonian actress, writer, and producer Ruth Nkweti, recognized for her roles in Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, Ejiro’s Lust, and Last Tango in Abuja. Nkweti is also known for her advocacy and socially conscious storytelling.

Behind the camera is acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Toka McBaror, whose impressive body of work includes Dark October, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons, and Kada River. His film Lotanna earned several awards at the Golden Movie Awards, including Best Film and Best Director, cementing his reputation for strong storytelling and cinematic craftsmanship.

At the heart of Avante is a gripping story of revenge complicated by love. The plot follows Gaju, a man driven by vengeance who disguises himself as Albert, a humble farmhand, to infiltrate the estate of the man responsible for his parents’ murder. However, his carefully planned mission becomes complicated when he falls in love with the killer’s daughter, forcing him to confront a profound moral dilemma between revenge and the possibility of redemption.

Industry observers say the March 29 premiere is expected to attract prominent figures from across the entertainment industry, including filmmakers, actors, executives, and cultural commentators.

As the countdown to the premiere continues, Avante is poised to make a significant impact, not just as another film release but as a production that seeks to contribute meaningfully to the evolving narrative of Nollywood storytelling in 2026.
