In a strategic move to engage a new generation of artists, Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has announced the launch of The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, with an inaugural focus on Documentary Film. This new award replaces the previously established Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism.
The prize is designed exclusively for Nigerian citizens aged 18 to 35. Announcing the initiative, NLNG’s Managing Director, Dr Philip Mshelbila, emphasised the decisive role of film in shaping national discourse.
“Film possesses a unique power to engage young people in shaping the future through the lens of our culture, history, and present realities,” stated Dr Mshelbila. “Our brand promise is to inspire a sustainable future, which requires us to reflect on the world around us and act to create positive change.
We envision that this documentary award will inspire a new generation of storytellers to inform, challenge, and connect us more deeply to our national identity and our potential.”
This shift underscores NLNG’s commitment to fostering contemporary art forms that drive social reflection and national development.
