Netflix Acquires Ben Affleck’s AI Filmmaking Startup InterPositive

Netflix has acquired InterPositive, an artificial intelligence filmmaking technology company founded by Ben Affleck, bringing the startup’s team and post-production tools into the streaming company as it expands the use of AI in film production.

The acquisition was announced by Netflix on March 5. Financial terms were not disclosed. InterPositive, founded by Affleck in 2022, develops AI tools used during film post-production.

The company’s software works on footage captured during production. The tools analyse a film’s raw dailies and assist editors and visual teams with tasks such as colour correction, relighting scenes, reframing shots, removing visible production elements such as stunt wires, and fixing continuity issues caused by missing camera angles.

Netflix said the acquisition is part of its effort to expand technology used by filmmakers working on its productions. Affleck will join the company as a senior adviser and work with teams on integrating the tools into film and television projects.

The move comes as studios examine ways to manage production and post-production costs. Post-production can account for about 20 to 25 percent of film budgets, according to industry estimates.

Affleck, who directed and acted in Argo, has previously spoken about the role of AI in film production. During a January 2026 appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience with Matt Damon, he said artificial intelligence tools can assist with technical production tasks but do not replace roles such as acting, directing, or storytelling.

The acquisition follows Netflix’s decision to step away from a reported bid for assets owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. Instead, the company pursued the acquisition of InterPositive and its filmmaking technology.

The development comes as labour discussions involving SAG-AFTRA are expected later in the year, where the use of artificial intelligence in film production is expected to be discussed.

Netflix said InterPositive’s tools will be used in its productions and by filmmakers working with the company. Affleck will advise Netflix on how the technology is introduced into production workflows.
