MyMovies.Africa, a Kenyan-made digital cinema extension, has announced that it will be sponsoring the Women in the 2022 Film Awards (WIFA).
Some of the sections to be sponsored by the Mobile-first Digital Cinema Extension include the Categories of “Best Newcomer Producer” and “Best Producer in Film”.
The event will take place at the Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi, on Wednesday 9th March 2022 as part of activities to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day celebration.
To produce the ceremony, MyMovies.Africa has engaged their seasoned Event Agency – PHAT! Productions.
Speaking on the sponsorship of the event, Ms. Trushna Buddhdev-Patel, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder of MyMovies.Africa expressed her excitement about the event.
“MyMovies.Africa™ is thrilled to be one of the Sponsors of WIFA 2022, as it aligns with our company’s mission to stir the growth of the Film Industry in Kenya and Africa and WIFA plays an important role in encouraging and empowering women in Kenya to embrace Filmmaking for telling their stories” she said.
Inaugurated in 2020, the Women in Film Awards (WIFA) brings women Filmmakers in Kenya together, to where the diversity of women’s voices, stories & creativity is equally recognized and celebrated.
Speaking about this, the leader of WIFA, Dr. Susan Gitimu – also a Lecturer of Film from Kenyatta University’s Department of Creative Arts, Film & Media Studies said;
 “There is a need for a Ceremony that affords Women, of any Background, the chance to be Showcased in a truly empowering light.
This year we celebrate 22 professional Women in Film and Television, from around 100 Nominees.”
