Popular comedian Ayodeji Makun, better known as AY, has reiterated that his rise to stardom was as a result of hardwork and perseverance in the entertainment industry.

Having spent, 25 years in the industry, the comedian cum actor in an interview with TokeMoments podcast hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa, said that his sojourn to stardom started way back from organising a campus beauty pageant at his alma mater, Delta State University, Abraka.

“I’ve been in showbiz for like 25 years because I started organising the campus beauty pageant from like way back Delta State University.

“I woke up one day and I said it’s also good to grace the stage. Leave backstage and come out. I’ve had candidates who represented Nigeria at Miss World, Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria. It will baffle you that I can teach a lady how to catwalk,” AY said.

He reminisced working as the assistant pageant manager for Miss Commonwealth, adding that he never knew he’d end up being the most followed Comedian on social media in Africa.

“I was working with the king of comedy (Alibaba) as his personal assistant and we used to travel everywhere. At the airport, people wanted to take pictures with Alibaba. There I was with my small bag, grabbing his phones. I didn’t see it coming, but I prayed for it. Then, it was just a prayer point backed with hard work.”
