My Journey To Becoming Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 –Chidimma Adetshina

Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, shares her inspiring story of perseverance and determination.

Born on January 8, 2001, Chidimma is a Nigerian-South African beauty pageant titleholder who represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico, finishing as the first runner-up.

Chidimma opens up about her journey to becoming a beauty queen, the lessons she has learned, and her experience as a Nigerian-South African.

Tell us about your journey to becoming a beauty queen?

I’ve always been fascinated by beauty pageants since I was five. In 2022, I watched Miss Universe for the first time and thought, ‘I can do this. I signed up for Miss South Africa in 2023, but was rejected. I tried again in 2024, but was rejected due to my name, Chidimma Adetshina, which they felt wasn’t ‘South African enough.’ That was a huge shock, but I didn’t give up. Silverbird invited me to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, and I was accepted. The rest, as they say, is history.

How has life been since winning the pageant?

It’s been amazing! Being a queen has put me out globally. Everywhere I go, people recognize me, and it’s not just about me as an individual, but about the story I represent. It’s nice to work in an environment where people respect and admire you.

What lessons have you learned about life?

I’ve learned that sometimes you’re in the wrong place, and you need to discover where you’re meant to be to achieve your goals.

Who inspires you the most?

Both my parents inspire me, as well as everyone around me.

What’s your favorite food?

Egusi, okro, and jollof rice.

What’s your style like?

I’m very simple. I like to keep things easy and effortless.

Do you have a special beauty routine?

No, I’m very low-maintenance. People might be surprised at how simple I am.

How do you compare Nigeria and South Africa?

I’m still discovering Nigeria, and it’s been a culture shock for me. I’ve lived in South Africa for 23 years, so it’s hard to compare the two just yet.

What advice do you have for upcoming contestants?

Step up and put Nigeria on the map for 2025! It’s an honour that Nigeria has been selected as a hosting country for pageantry, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
