Mohbad: Yomi Fabiyi Calls for Protest Despite Family’s Opposition

Nigerian actor Yomi Fabiyi has called for a peaceful protest to demand justice for the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, as the first anniversary of his death approaches.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, died under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the next day.

His sudden demise however sparked widespread speculations with demands for a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances and cause of his death.

On September 21, 2023, authorities exhumed Mohbad’s body for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The results, however, revealed no significant findings that could explain his death. The toxicology report detected the presence of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, but noted not in a concentration that could be considered fatal.

Unsatisfied with the autopsy results, Mohbad’s family has called for an independent investigation into his death.

A member of the Aloba family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, confirmed that a two-part autopsy is ongoing. While the first phase has been completed, the second phase, involving toxicology and histology tests, is still underway.

However, in an Instagram post on Tuesday, Fabiyi urged the public to attend upcoming court sessions related to the case and to participate in the coroner’s inquest.

He suggested that if no significant progress is made, a peaceful protest should be organised around the first anniversary of Mohbad’s death to demand justice.

“Let’s storm the court peacefully and attend the next coroner inquest and protest to register our demands on this case. If nothing tangible is seen or heard, we focus on the day of the one-year anniversary,” Fabiyi wrote.
