Mike Okri Rolls Back The Years With Self-Titled EP

Award-winning hip-highlife musician, Mike Okri, has announced the launch of his self-titled EP as he stages a grand return to the music scene after a prolonged absence.

The EP is solely produced by the singer under his Mike Okri Entertainment Company.

According to a statement by Vwede Overah, spokesperson to the singer, the album will be launched at The Kulture Yard, Ikeja on Saturday, March 27, 2021, and will see Sheyi Shay as a special guest of honour.

Okri’s EP is said to comprise “entertaining, original, fascinating, and meaningful songs for entertainment and education”.

The album is likened to a profoundly beautiful piece of art on canvas and blended in the uniqueness of Afro-highlife and western style, the singer’s music contains deep lyrics that are said to “uplift and heal” the spirit in an original Mike Okri trademark which is backed by rhythm, harmony, and soul which he calls “AFRO-MYSTIC-SOUL”.

The veteran highlife crooner has four music albums — ‘Concert Fever’, ‘Rhumba Dance’, ‘CRACKS’ and ‘Rhythmysticals’ — to his credit and dominated the music scene in the 80s and 90s with hits like ‘Rhumba Dance’, ‘Time Na Money’, ‘Okpeke’, ‘Wisdom’, and ‘Burnin’.

Over the course of his career, Okri has bagged several awards, including The Nigerian Music Awards (NMA), Fame Music Awards (FMA), and the Pan African Music Awards (PAMA) in Ghana.

He left Nigeria over two decades ago but made a return in 2020.

With this EP comprising of ‘very entertaining, original, fascinating and meaningful songs for general entertainment and education, he is set to become the bridge between the old and the new generation of Nigerian musicians’ the statement added.

Recall that Mike made great musical impact among the young and the old from the 1980s; all through the 1990s; 2000s.
