…Charges Organization To Embrace Stakeholders’ Engagement To Stem Fire Incidents

Lagos State Government today visited the Household of David Church after the fire incident that engulfed the church yesterday to commiserate with the management and members of the church

The Government also enjoined the churches and other stakeholders to embrace government’s engagement going on to reduce the spate of fire incidents in the State.

Addressing senior church management, members and pressmen during the visit to the church premises on Adeniyi Jones Industrial Estate, Ikeja Lagos, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Mr Olugbenga Oyerinde expressed sadness at result of the fire outbreak while extending the government sympathy.

According to the Commissioner, “We are here and we bring the message of the government of Lagos State and Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, we see this is a huge loss to the church and members with no salvage point for where they can worship except to relocate for now and it is so painful to the government.

“As we can see there is much for us as an Agency of government to create Stakeholders Engagement, making everyone to know that prevention is better than cure and with full prevention duly engaged and deployed to the fire, the collosal loss would have been avoided”.

Mr Oyerinde however added that the investigative arm of the agency of government in meeting with necessary officers of the church to look at the remote and immediate cause of the fire incident with the intention to checkmate such occurrence in future around the State.

He added that the visit is to move beyond whatever rhetoric going on about the fire incident and understand the reason behind it and how to avoid same.

“In line with our commiseration to what has happened, we felt it is very important looking at the loss that has happened that we need to know the remote cause of that fire, it is not enough to just take the rhetoric about how they think it has happened.

“Being a professional agency that handles this matter, I think it is of importance to us to engage them properly to know the source and the cause of that fire”, Oyerinde stressed.

One of the Senior Pastor of the church, Pastor Yinka Adedeji thanked the State Government for deeming it fit to visit the church at this time of loss noting that the management will work with the agency to provide answers to all questions raised by the incident.

Also present during the visit are the Director, Lagos State Fire and Recue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye and other management staff of the Service.
